Grammy-winning Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela have released their new single and video “Monster”, the first track unveiled from their upcoming album OurHome, set for release on September 18 via ATO Records.
The accompanying video was illustrated and directed by legendary Japanese manga creator Naoki Urasawa, the acclaimed author of Monster, 20th Century Boys and Pluto. For the project, Urasawa created original artwork inspired by the song, blending his distinctive visual style with the duo’s cinematic musical approach.
The collaboration is especially fitting because Urasawa’s celebrated manga Monster served as the original inspiration behind the composition. Gabriela Quintero revealed that the band wrote the piece before learning that Urasawa had long been a fan of their music, making the eventual collaboration feel like a remarkable creative full circle.
One of the darkest and most cinematic compositions in the duo’s catalogue, “Monster” explores the contradictions of the human psyche through Rodrigo y Gabriela’s signature acoustic guitar interplay and emotionally charged atmosphere. Urasawa’s hand-drawn visuals further amplify the song’s tension and introspective mood.
OurHome was recorded in Japan and self-produced by Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero at NK Sound Tokyo. Alongside the album announcement, the duo has also revealed an extensive international tour scheduled throughout 2026 and 2027.
