When it comes to Zoran Marković Zonjo, it is difficult to keep things within a single job title. Director, screenwriter, producer, musician, songwriter and, as his official biography rather characteristically puts it, a “high official” of The Books of Knjige — Zonjo clearly has little interest in keeping his CV simple.
So it comes as no surprise that Zonjo appears at this year’s Muzzik Video Awards 5G from several different angles: as the director of two nominated music videos, and as the songwriter behind his new musical project Disco Murva. He has now also sent Muzzik TV his own call inviting audiences to watch the videos and vote.
The first nominated video is Andrea Demirović – “Sama”, competing in the Best Cinematography in a Music Video category. Zonjo directed, wrote and produced the video, while Miodrag Mika Marković served as director of photography — and is himself nominated for the award. The song is a new version of “Sama”, originally released by the band Talas in 1983, with the new production and arrangement by SevdahBABY.
The second is Disco Murva feat. Andrea Demirović – “Kad kući krenem”, the first single from Zonjo’s Disco Murva project. Filmed in New York, the video was also directed and produced by Zonjo, with cinematography and colour by Miodrag Marković. At the centre of the video is actress Danica Roganović, who is nominated for her lead performance in the Best Lead Performance in a Music Video category.
And this is where the story comes together nicely: Zonjo is behind the camera as director, Mika is nominated for cinematography, and Danica for her lead performance. And because Zonjo apparently has no intention of limiting himself to one role, he also wrote the music and lyrics for “Kad kući krenem”, co-created the music with Nemanja Nedeljković Nemus, and launched the song as part of his new musical project.
Zonjo is a graduate of Film and TV Directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje and has been one of the recognizable names in regional music-video production for years. His directing credits include videos for artists such as Who See, Letu Štuke, Zabranjeno pušenje and Perper, while he also directed the feature film The Books of Knjige: Cases of Justice.
