After months of announcement through recent singles "KGB" and "Red Bottoms", ADÉLA presents her debut album "PRIMA", which will be released on September 4th via Capitol Records (Universal Music Group). The long-awaited news comes alongside her new single "Ain't In LA" and a Fred Gervais-directed video shot in her hometown of Bratislava.
Powered by powerful 808 bass, choppy drums, chopped and slowed down vocals and smooth verses, "Ain't In LA" brings ADÉLA a look back at her already whirlwind life journey, as well as gratitude for all the opportunities she's been given since leaving Slovakia to pursue her dream of becoming a pop star. The inspiration came after visiting her hometown, where she found photographs of her mother at age 18, posing in front of a wall covered in pop culture images.
"My grandfather smuggled those posters out of Germany," she says. "It made me think, 'There are so many beautiful girls with dreams who, just like my mom, will never get the recognition they deserve.' I wrote this for her and a billion other bitches who are probably cooler than me."
The long-awaited debut album is executive produced by Dylan Brady and Blake Slatkin. The album is a multi-layered portrait of ADÉLA's artistic expression and the unfiltered sound of a young woman in full control of her own power.
"I want this album to sound exactly like a twenty-two-year-old girl," she says. "I tried to express both sides. I combined hard and soft, vulnerability and all that attitude, strong rhythms and feminine energy. I did exactly what I wanted."
On PRIMA, ADÉLA reveals her more vulnerable side, exploring insecurities, toxic relationships and classic themes of the female experience, such as love, loss, identity, autonomy and friendship. The distinctive sound of heels and pirouettes, sweat-soaked holes and lyrics as intimate as a text sent at three in the morning firmly anchor her music, while she is driven forward by a refreshingly uncompromising determination to reach the top.
"PRIMA means 'first', which is perfect because this is my first. Being a prima ballerina means that you are the main one, that is, the best ballerina in the ensemble. It's a term of endearment among ballerinas. I'm trying to become a prima ballerina pop, and this is my first step towards that."
The news of the arrival of the album "PRIMA" follows the announcement of ADÉLINE's first solo tour, which sold out in just a few minutes, as well as the previously released singles "KGB" and "Red Bottoms". Less than a year ago, ADÉLA released her debut EP "The Provocateur" on Capitol Records - a dramatized story of a young woman willing to do whatever it takes to make her dreams come true.
She has since received praise from outlets such as Vogue, Interview Magazine, The FADER, Harper's Bazaar, NYLON, Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, i-D and PAPER Magazine, with the latter noting that her "fame comes as no surprise". Following such accolades, ADÉLA quickly sold out her first live solo shows in London, New York and Los Angeles, and then opened concerts on Demi Lovato's North American tour.
