Laka is back in his element: slightly ironic, a little unpredictable and unmistakably himself. Bosnian and Herzegovinian singer-songwriter Elvir Laković Laka has earned two nominations at this year’s Muzzik Video Awards 5G: Best Video for “Penzija” and Best Art Direction for “Kraj”. To encourage audiences to support his work, he has also sent Muzzik TV a special video message, joined by his sister Lela, his longtime and most recognisable musical collaborator.
“Penzija” is Laka’s humorous, slightly bitter take on big ambitions and the reality that often takes life in a completely different direction. Released as part of the album “Mama”, the song reflects the musician’s accumulated life and musical experience, bringing together his signature satire, sharp lyrics and eccentric personality. The video is just as distinctive, directed by Zoran Kubura and Bojan Hadžiabdić of Doksa, with Hadžiabdić also responsible for editing.
“Kraj” reveals another, equally recognisable side of Laka. The song, performed by Laka and Lela, celebrates the idea that every ending can be the beginning of something new, while the colourful visual world of the video turns that message into a small cinematic story. The video was also directed by Kubura and Hadžiabdić, and features Lela’s son Roko alongside the siblings. Its visual concept has earned a nomination for Best Art Direction.
From “Pokušaj”, the song with which he represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at Eurovision in 2008, to the album “Mama” and his latest videos, Laka has stayed true to his distinctive blend of humour, pop-rock and individual artistic expression. His creative partnership with his sister Lela has become an essential part of that story, both on stage and on screen.
Now it is the audience’s turn. Watch Laka’s message, support “Penzija” in the Best Video category and “Kraj” in Best Art Direction, and vote for your favourites at MVA 5G.
